Couple on Cape Cod Scenic Drive

Stop 1: Church of the Transfiguration

As you roll out onto Main Street from the inn, you’ll pass by lots of quaint shops and smiling faces on your way to the Church of the Transfiguration. “A contemporary expression of an ancient fourth-century style of architecture,” it features breathtaking pieces from master artists and sculptors. The Church typically offers tours and hosts concerts and theater performances throughout the year. If you don’t have time to stop for a guided tour, then take a virtual tour of the Church instead!

Stop 2: Cape Cod National Seashore Salt Pond

Head northeast from the Church to the second destination on our scenic East Coast drive, Cape Cod National Seashore. Browse through the National Park store and museum at the Salt Pond Visitor Center or simply enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while hiking or observing nature.

Cape Cod Beach

Stop 3: Nauset Beach

From Cape Cod National Seashore, head south on US-6 W to Nauset Beach off of Beach Rd. Spend some time swimming, fishing, surfing or simply sunbathing on the public beach. (Tip: Although large, the parking lot does fill up on nice days so arrive early or in the late afternoon for the most availability.)

Stop 4: Nauset Lighthouse

The fourth stop on our scenic road trip takes you to Nauset Lighthouse in Eastham, MA. Lighthouse tours are free and open to the public, though you may need to wait a bit during busier times as there is limited space in the buildings. Climb the stairs, visit the lookout room and learn about the history of the most photographed lighthouse on Cape Cod. If you don’t want to wait your turn, the grounds are always available to wander, and offer beautiful views and photo opportunities as well.

Wine Tasting on Cape Cod

Stop 5: Lunch Time in Wellfleet

Exploring The Cape is sure to work up your appetite. For the fifth stop on our East Coast road trip, we recommend two wonderful restaurants in Wellfleet to grab a bite to eat. From Viennoiseries and Patisseries, to salads, pizza, smoked salmon and sandwiches, PB Boulangerie Bistro offers a taste of France in a quaint setting. For a more fun and relaxed feel, try some of the freshest seafood at The Beachcomber, with its own beach just outside. It’s been featured as “One of the Best Seaside Dining Spots in New England” by Yankee Magazine and features both an indoor and outdoor bar overlooking the Atlantic.

Stop 6: Truro Vineyards + South Hollow Spirits

The sixth stop on the drive is located in the small town of Truro, MA. Truro Vineyards and South Hollow Spirits are family owned and operated, and offer wine and spirits tours and tastings to the public. Before you leave, make sure to stop by the gift shop to pick up your favorite bottle to take home with you.

Highland Light on Cape Cod Road Trip

Stop 7: Highland Lighthouse

A short 6 minute drive from Truro is our seventh stop, Highland Lighthouse. Owned by the National Park Service, Highland is Cape Cod’s first lighthouse and is operated by the United States Coast Guard. Visitors can enjoy guided tours and the Highland Light Museum Store. Be sure to check their hours, as they do change throughout the seasons.

Stop 8: Provincetown, MA

Stop eight takes you to the end of The Cape, to bustling Provincetown, MA. Provincetown offers wonderful shops, vibrant art, excellent restaurants, lively events, fun hikes, and so many more things to do throughout the year and seasonally! Their LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere adds to the bohemian feel and welcoming nature of this charming town.

Spacious Room at Chatham Hotel

Final Stop: Chatham Inn

After a full day exploring The Cape, arrive back at Chatham Inn to relax and rejuvenate. We know you’ll be sad to drop off the luxury Volvo SUV, but it will be waiting for you on your next visit to our Relais & Châteaux hotel in Cape Cod. Discuss the high points of your day over a gourmet meal at our award-winning Cuvée Restaurant or while relaxing by the fire pit on the patio with appetizers and wine at The Terrace. Then retire to your luxurious room or suite, relax in your two-person soaking tub, and rest in your cozy bed with high-quality linens for a restful night’s sleep. Feeling pampered and refreshed, you’ll wake up ready for another day’s adventure, or head home where you can start planning your next getaway to Cape Cod.
